Nick Kyrgios will be a sideline commentator on the upcoming season of Australian Ninja Warrior

Tennis bad boy Nick Kyrgios officially joins the cast of Australian Ninja Warrior’s upcoming season as a sideline commentator

He’s long been one of the most watchable professional tennis players on the men’s circuit.

But Nick Kyrgios is set to swap his tennis racquet for a microphone as he joins the upcoming season of Australian Ninja Warrior.

A 30-second video for the Channel 9 game show showed the 26-year-old athlete providing sideline commentary.

Introducing Kyrgios as ‘Australia’s most exciting tennis superstar,’ the trailer began, over on-court footage of the world’s 56th ranked men’s player.

‘Now, Nick Kyrgios joins Australia’s Ninja’s killer new team,’ the voiceover intoned, showing the Canberran alongside fellow stars Ben Fordham, Rebecca Maddern and Shane Crawford.

Kyrgios and Crawford appear to be sharing sideline commentary duties this year, after the former AFL star took over from former cricketer Freddie Flintoff.

The course was teased as the toughest of all time with obstacles now including underwater challenges to conquer Mt Midoriyama.

In the teaser, it also looked like competitors will also go head-to-head in challenges.

Stars of the series Jack ‘Deadly Ninja’ Wilson and Ashlin ‘Flashlin’ Herbert are seen racing each other on the course. Olivia Vivian will also return.

The new series comes after Ben Polson conquered Mt Midoriyama last year.

Ben set a record climbing up Mount Midoriyama in 25.56 seconds and took home a whopping $400,000 in the finale.

Reflecting on his win, Ben he said: ‘I wasn’t your average kid at school. I felt like an outcast and got bullied a lot.’

The show is set to air later this year on Channel Nine.
