Pregnant Bindi Irwin reveals how her late father Steve inspired her baby’s nickname – and says he ‘would have been the best grandfather’
Bindi Irwin is due to give birth to her first child in a matter of weeks.
And the 22-year-old wildlife warrior revealed this week how her late father Steve Irwin had inspired her unborn daughter’s nickname.
Bindi also told The Bump her dad ‘would have been the best grandfather’ to her child.

Bindi said her little girl’s nickname was ‘Baby Wildlife Warrior’, and explained: ‘My dad was the first person to create the term Wildlife Warrior.’
Bindi, who will give birth around March or April, added that Steve would have been in his element as a grandfather.
‘My dad would have been the best grandfather,’ she said. ‘I always joke that if he was still here we’d never see our baby because he’d take her on all kinds of adventures!’

Bindi said she was looking forward to sharing her father’s legacy of conservation with her daughter when she’s old enough to understand it.
Steve died in September 2006 at the age of 44 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming a documentary in Batt Reef, Queensland.
Bindi also said her mother Terri was looking forward to becoming a grandmother and will go by the name ‘Bunny’ once the child arrives.

Bindi said she’d decorated the baby’s nursery with bunnies and woodland animals to pay tribute to her mother.
The former Dancing with the Stars contestant announced her pregnancy in August.
‘Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021,’ Bindi wrote on Instagram, as she and husband Chandler Powell posed with a tiny Australia Zoo uniform.
‘Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you,’ she added.
The couple married in a small ceremony at Australia Zoo in March last year.
