A video of rapper Busta Rhymes has gone viral showing the 49-year-old star going on an anti-mask tirade amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Busta, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., went on the rant during a show in Missouri back in June – which was shared on YouTube at the time – however it only went viral on Tuesday.

In the clip, the hip hop legend railed against government mask mandates that have been put in place over the last year and a half to stem the spread of the pandemic.

‘This is my second show in front of human life in the last 15 f**king months. COVID can suck a d**k,’ he told the audience. ‘All these little weird-a*s government policies and mandates suck a d**k.’

According to Page Six, Busta was the surprise headliner earlier this summer Seoul Taco’s 10th anniversary block party in St. Louis, Missouri, where the video was filmed.

The crowd at the venue can be heard cheering the rapper on as he declared that mask mandates ‘take our civil liberties away’.

‘It’s called the God-given right of freedom, right?’ he shouted. ‘No human being is supposed to tell you that you can’t even breathe freely. F**k your mask.’

Busta added that he realized ‘some of y’all might feel differently’ but continued to say ‘f**k your mask.’

‘We can’t eat food with a f**king mask on,’ he ranted. ‘We can’t even see each other’s smiles with a mask on.’

‘All of that energy gets blocked when our mask is on and energy is important,’ Busta went on. ‘We are all conductors of f**king good energy.’

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that anyone over the age of two who is not fully vaccinated wear a mask in indoor public settings.

For a short period of time, the CDC said it was okay for those fully vaccinated to go maskless indoors, however, due to the more contagious Delta variant, it is now suggesting those people also keep masks on inside in places of high transmission.

Despite fans in the crowd cheering Busta’s tirade on, many on social media expressed their disappointment.

‘Busta. People are f**king dying,’ one Twitter user said succinctly.

'We can't eat food with a f**king mask on,' he ranted. 'We can't even see each other's smiles with a mask on. All of that energy gets blocked when our mask is on and energy is important'

‘Now I’m not gone lie I hate wearing it but it is definitely necessary and I do wear it!!!!! This is very ignorant to say smh especially because like they said he has friends who have suffered from it that’s like a slap in their face,’ another added.

A third said point blank: ‘He better keep that same energy when he or his loved one ends up in ICU, struggling to breathe’

Several other social media users pointed out that Busta Rhymes himself reportedly suffered from a bout of COVID-19.  The Flipmode Squad star has yet to comment on the controversy.
