Rylan cryptically jokes about his newly-single life after Tinder ban following his marriage split

Rylan Clark-Neal made a cryptic joke about his newly-single life during a humorous appearance on Have I Got New For You on Friday night.

The presenter, 32, quipped: ‘I’ve come across a lot of idiots this year!’ alluding to his use of and eventual ban from Tinder following his marriage split with husband Dan Neal.

Rylan was on fine form during his stint on the BBC panel show, with viewers praising his humour and sharp wit as he sat alongside comedians Jo Brand, Paul Merton and Ian Hislop.

His joke about ‘idiots’ came as the panel were discussing an AI robot being detained at the border in Egypt after it was suspected of being a spy, with guards demanding the removal of its eyes.

With Rylan showing concern for the robot, saying: ‘What a lovely set of eyes, beautiful woman’, Ian then asked: ‘You’ve got a thing with robots, haven’t you?’

The former X Factor star then responded: ‘I just think, you know what, I’ve just come across such a lot of idiots this year! To be honest.’

Rylan shook his head as he said his joke before giggling while team member Ian roared with laughter beside him.

And though he didn’t directly state who his remark was aimed at, it could be suggested that he was alluding to use of dating apps following the breakdown of his marriage.

Rylan’s appearance on the show went down very well with fans, with one remarking: ‘Rylan was the best bit of #HIGNFY.’

It comes after the star revealed he was banned from Tinder after the dating app mistakenly thought he was a catfish.

Rylan took to his Instagram Stories on Thursday and shared a snap that showed his profile had been deleted for violating the app’s terms of service.

The Strictly: It Takes Two host, who recently separated from husband Dan, captioned the photo: ‘Catfish’ along with a laughing emoji.

According to The Mirror, Rylan’s Tinder profile read: ‘Tall normal bloke – 6’4′ – am I actually on this thing?’

At the Attitude Awards earlier this month, Rylan joked about joining gay dating app Grindr following his split.

He said: ‘Sorry, I was a little bit distracted. I was trying to download Grindr. It’s been 10 years! What a year.’

He appeared to reference his marriage split in the speech and thanked Steps star Claire Richards for supporting him.

He said: ‘On a personal level, one of the members of this band is like my big sister.

‘For the past four months, probably for the toughest time in my life, she’s been there for me, and without her, I probably wouldn’t be giving this award out tonight.’

It comes after Rylan reassured fans he is doing ‘good’ following reports that BBC bosses were urging him to take a year off work.

The TV presenter, 32, has broken his silence and said he is alright following his split from his husband Dan but added that there was a time when he ‘wasn’t’.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Rylan wrote: ‘Couple of news stories today. Be assured, I’m good. I wasn’t, but I am now x’.

The reassurance came after Rylan was said to have ‘broke down during his Radio 2 show’ last month which led to producers ‘holding a crisis meeting’.

Rylan – who is set to divorce Dan after fighting to save their six-year marriage – stepped down from his BBC Radio 2 show for four months following their split earlier this year and had raised concerns his return to work was too hasty.

A source told The Sun that Rylan ‘started crying during a Radio 2 show in September’ meaning ‘colleagues had to load the next track so Rylan could compose himself’.

They added: ‘Rylan’s one of the BBC’s favourite stars. When he returned to work everyone supported him but when he broke down people were concerned he’d come back too fast.’

In June, Rylan broke his silence to say: ‘Following reports about Dan and I spending time apart, I feel I have to speak out as the way it is being reported is unfair.

‘I have made a number of mistakes which I deeply regret and have inevitably led to the breakdown of our marriage.’

Sources close to Rylan told The Mail on Sunday the couple tried to reconcile at their marital home after he spent much of the summer with his mother, Linda, who appears on his Saturday afternoon Radio 2 show.

‘Things were looking so good, like they were back together,’ said one. ‘They hoped they could avoid divorce, but it’s now looking like the only way forward.

‘Many around them were desperately hoping they can win the battle to save their relationship. It’s very sad.’
