Sally Obermeder reveals she never believed she would see her daughter turn 10 – as she celebrates overcoming her breast cancer battle


Sally Obermeder was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 38. 

And a decade on, with 16 rounds of chemotherapy under her belt, the former Daily Edition star says she feels blessed to watch her daughter, Annabelle, turn 10. 

As the 48-year-old prepares to celebrate the tot’s milestone on October 15, she is grateful for her recovery, too.

‘This is the day I never thought I’d see and here I am,’ she told this week’s Stellar Magazine. 

‘I remember thinking that if I could live to see Annabelle turn 10 that would be beyond my wildest dreams. 

‘It’s not lost on me that this is a huge milestone. It’s incredibly significant,’ she added.

‘It was like an alien falling out of the sky and landing at your breakfast table,’ she said. 

‘I remember the look on the doctor’s face and I just fell apart because it’s almost in what people don’t say that the answers lie.’   

The TV star was declared cancer free in 2012, after undergoing chemotherapy treatment, two mastectomies and reconstructive surgery.

‘Losing my hair and eyebrows and lashes was so tough, on top of everything else,’ Sally said at the time.
