Seb Costello departs Triple M’s Hot Breakfast a year after his bizarre feud with Edwina Bartholomew

Seb Costello departs Triple M’s Hot Breakfast and joins A Current Affair – a year after his bizarre feud with Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholomew

Seb Costello has left Triple M’s Hot Breakfast.

The journalist, who is the son of Channel Nine chairman and former Australian Treasurer Peter Costello, made the announcement this week, saying he’s leaving to join Nine’s A Current Affair.

The move comes a year after Seb’s bizarre feud with Sunrise newsreader Edwina Bartholomew, which resulted in her issuing a public apology and paying him $20,000 as a result of an ‘errant tweet’ she posted about him.

Seb told his Instagram followers on Thursday that he’d had an ‘amazing time’ working at Triple M over the years.

‘As announced on air today, with my recent appointment at A Current Affair I’ve decided to wrap up my role on Triple M Melbourne with the Hot Breakfast team tomorrow,’ he wrote.

‘My involvement at the M’s goes back [to] 2015 and it’s been an amazing time. More reflection on air tomorrow.’

The announcement comes as hosts Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy depart the Hot Breakfast program. Their last show aired on Friday.

In October last year, Edwina Bartholomew apologised for her ‘errant tweet’ about Seb, almost six weeks after defaming him on Twitter.

It was reported at the time that the Sunrise presenter did a lot more than simply issue a public apology to clear the slate with Seb.

The Daily Telegraph claimed she also ‘had to pay Costello about $20,000’.

Edwina publicly apologised to Seb on Twitter for her ‘inappropriate’ tweet about him.

‘On 14/9 I made a statement on Twitter about @sebcostello9. While I won’t repeat it, what I said about him was false, hurtful and completely inappropriate,’ she wrote.

‘I unreservedly apologise to Seb and his family for the hurt and offence my words caused.’

In mid-September, the then-pregnant 36-year-old had ‘backhandedly praised’ Seb’s reporting on Twitter, according to the Herald Sun.

The tweet, which cannot be republished for legal reasons, was in response to one of Seb’s Nine News reports and stated: ‘Surprisingly articulate for a [censored].’

Daily Mail Australia revealed days after the incident that Edwina’s tweet was actually meant to be a private message to a friend.

The tweet in question reportedly stayed up for 50 minutes before being deleted.

The popular presenter, who was reporting from London at the time, confirmed she had in fact posted the ‘errant tweet’.

‘I was half asleep and on the other side of the world. It was clearly a mistake and the errant tweet has been deleted,’ Edwina said.

At the time, Channel Seven management stood by Edwina, and were ‘sympathetic’ to her situation and vowed to ‘continue to back her 100 per cent’.
