Selena Gomez video chats with Timothee Chalamet about voting as he waits in line to cast his ballot

Selena Gomez has one of the largest audiences on Instagram, having amassed 194 million followers.

And the former Disney Channel star is using her platform for good, urging her fans to vote in the upcoming presidential election.

She video chatted with friend and co-star Timothée Chalamet during an Instagram Live Saturday on her profile, as he waited in line to cast his ballot in New York City, on the first day of early voting.

The 28-year-old appeared to be in a more comfortable setting, chilling in bed, as she already sent in her mail-in ballot.

Chalamet, 24, told her: ‘Right now I’m literally voting, at my early voting station in New York at Madison Square Garden which feels particularly metaphorical because I’ve seen many great things happen here. So I’m hoping another great thing happens today.’

He said as people chanted in the background: ‘It’s really moving to see this many people show up. It feels like people are motivated.’

‘I really hope this guy loses… Oh man. I think in New York we’re safe, victory-wise,’ the Lady Bird actor expressed his desire to see President Donald Trump voted out of office, as Gomez added: ‘My stomach hurts because I’m nervous.’

He also praised her for using her platform to encourage early voting: ‘I’m really proud of you. You’ve been all over this stuff and I know it’s making a difference.’   

Gomez and Chalamet previously starred together in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York, which premiered earlier this month in the US, after it’s premiere was shelved in 2018, amid the auteur’s #MeToo scandal.

Their chat came just days after she took to Instagram with photos of herself rocking an ‘I VOTED’ sticker while finishing her mail-in ballot, writing: ‘Just finished filling out my ballot!’

Gomez told Abrams: ‘A part of why I wanted to do so much around voting and around getting my generation going is because I believe that my generation specifically gets distracted.

‘And there’s so much going on in the world. This is the one time that we can make a difference.’

She also joined Leonardo DiCaprio and John Legend in narrating the Netflix documentary Whose Vote Counts, Explained, which premiered last month.
