Shania Twain jokingly makes an ‘exception’ and wishes Brad Pitt a ‘Happy Birthday’

She famously referenced Brad Pitt in her 1997 track That Don’t Impress Me Much.

And Shania Twain alluded to the hit single as she wished the now 57-year-old actor a ‘Happy Birthday’ on Friday.

‘Happy Birthday to Brad Pitt, I’ll make an exception for today,’ wrote the country queen, 55, who shared the hilarious message via Twitter.

Shania was referring to one moment in the song where she memorably sings: ‘OK, so you’re Brad Pitt? That don’t impress me much.’

Due to the song’s entire premise revolving around ‘self-absorbed suitors,’ many fans and listeners assumed the line was meant to be a dig at Pitt.

But, 20 years after That Don’t Impress Me Much’s release, Shania revealed the true meaning behind the infamous line in an interview with Billboard.

‘You want to know the truth about this story? I’ve never told this before. I’m going to say it now,’ declared the songstress, who went on to recall the moment that inspired the lyric.

‘I remember I had a girl friend visiting me and it was near Christmas and we were baking cookies. I was writing this album and there was a scandal of [Pitt] and Gwyneth [Paltrow] where there was naked photos of him!’

Shania was referring to Pitt’s nonconsensual appearance in the August 1997 edition of Playgirl Magazine.

The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star went on to successfully sue Playgirl over the nude photographs, asking for ‘unspecified damages for invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress,’ as reported by the New York Times.

Judge Robert O’Brien, who presided over the case, granted Pitt’s request for Playgirl to ‘not deliver’ or produce any more copies of the August issue.

But, unfortunately for Pitt, the judge ‘did not order the recall of magazines already sent to subscribers.’

The NSFW photos of Brad were allegedly ‘taken in 1995 by a photographer who trespassed on the grounds of a hotel in the French West Indies island of St. Barthelemy.’

Shania remembered Brad’s nude snaps being ‘like all the rage’ that year and she just ‘[didn’t] know what all the fuss [was] about.’

‘I’m like, “Well that don’t impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss. We see people naked every day.” That’s really what I thought,’ she explained.

She made it clear to Billboard that she ‘wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt’ in the song, instead she was commenting on the public’s fascination with nudity.

‘That was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.’

That Don’t Impress Me Much, which is featured on Twain’s third studio album Come On Over, is considered one of her biggest hits to date.
