Snackmasters: Channel Nine show debuts to solid ratings

Channel Nine’s Snackmasters debuts to solid ratings – landing the title of most viewed entertainment show across all networks

Channel Nine’s brand new cooking show Snackmasters delivered solid ratings when it made its debut on Monday night.

The new series, hosted by chef Scott Pickett and MasterChef legend Poh Ling Yeow, raked in 603,000 metro viewers – making it the highest ranking entertainment show across all networks.

It was followed by Channel Seven’s The Chase Australia with 517,000 viewers, and ABC’s Australian Story: Summer Series, which drew in 456,000 viewers.

For overall shows, Seven News topped the ratings with 949,000 metro viewers.

Interestingly, Snackmasters’ ratings weren’t too different than MasterChef Australia’s launch episode in April 2021.

The former reality TV juggernaut premiered to 670,000 viewers – just 67,000 more than Snackmasters.

The concept of Nine’s new show sees contestants remake some of the country’s favourite snacks.

On the debut episode, contestants were tasked with creating Hungry Jack’s famous Angry Whopper and thick-cut chips.

‘What excites me about Snackmasters is the show’s appeal to everyone from old to young,’ host Poh told Yahoo this week.

‘These snacks are a part of our Aussie identity and childhood memories, but most importantly this is a fun food show and right now the world needs fun.’

Yvie Jones, 48, who starred as an armchair critic on Gogglebox Australia from 2015 to 2018, also appears on the show in the role of ‘food detective’.

Following on from her MasterChef Australia debut, Poh went on to launch a successful career in the food industry, and hosted several cooking shows on ABC and SBS.

In February, Poh announced she had split from her second husband, Jono Bennett, after six years of marriage and 12 years together in total.

Before meeting Jonathan, she was married to Matt Phipps for a decade.
