‘Ouch!’ Sam said, wincing in pain but keeping his composure.

‘I’m fine. It didn’t hurt all,’ he added, before making a joke about his strong calves.

‘You’re lucky I have very strong calves from representing Australia at international-level schoolboy soccer,’ he said.

Sam said later in the broadcast he was still recovering from the accident.

‘I’m going to battle on,’ he told Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch. ‘That’s the thing about this game, you just have to get up again when you cop the block.’

Sam went on to joke he ‘took it like a man’ but then admitted his ‘squeal’ could be heard from ‘three suburbs away’.

The segment ended with Sam cutting to a skateboarding dog, joking he’d reached ‘a high point’ in his showbusiness career.
