Tahlia Giumelli and Tom Burgess have finally left the hospital with their newborn daughter Elodie, after she fell ill.

Model Tahlia shared the news on Instagram on Saturday, after they spent days seeking professional medical care.

Tahlia shared a picture of Elodie, four weeks, in her pram as they left the children’s ward and said: ‘Home time.’

On Thursday evening, Tahlia revealed that Tom could finally see their newborn daughter in hospital, after they were kept apart while awaiting the results of Elodie’s Covid-19 test. 

She shared an update at the time, saying that Elodie has respiratory syncytial virus, which causes respiratory infections, but doesn’t have coronavirus. 

It came just hours after she shared a heartbreaking photo to Instagram of Tom looking through a glass door at his daughter in the hospital recovery suite.

Tahlia could be seen nursing the baby in a selfie shared to Instagram Stories. 

‘Covid test came back negative. Elodie has respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) it’s super common but just not great for newborns especially as she was a bit prem,’ she wrote.

‘Lots of cuddles (and coffee for mum).’ 

Tahlia had been staying with her newborn in the suite.

She said on Friday that backpacking through Europe had ‘prepared her to sleep on a hospital fold-out bed comfortably’.

‘That’s comfortable (and cleaner) then some hostels I’ve stayed in that’s for sure,’ she joked, before sharing a picture of herself alongside the caption: ‘What is sleep?’ 

On Thursday, Tahlia revealed that Tom was facing the heartbreaking prospect of not being able to see their baby daughter in hospital until she received the results of her Covid-19 test.

The news came as a new coronavirus cluster emerges in Sydney.

As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 41 cases have surfaced in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Tahlia shared a heartbreaking photo of the rugby league player peering at his daughter through the hospital room’s glass windows.

‘This image broke my heart and for the first time during this whole experience I cried,’ she wrote in the caption.

Tahlia, who is also mother to one-year-old daughter Sophie, added: ‘There’s nothing more painful than being apart from your child when they need you the most.’

Elodie had been born premature at 36 weeks.
