Taylor Swift lives it up with Haim after triumph at the BRIT Awards

‘We meet every Tuesday for a glass of wine!’ Global Icon Taylor Swift lives it up with Haim as the American acts enjoy a boozy night in after triumph at the BRIT Awards

  • The 2021 BRIT Awards took place at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday night, and marked the first major indoor music event in over a year
  • Bosses released 2,500 free tickets to key National Health Service workers and the ceremony was broadcast live on ITV
  • There were a slew of performances from artists including Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Elton John, Pink and Arlo Parks

The after-parties may well be off, but BRIT Award winners Taylor Swift and Haim still ensured it was a late night as they celebrated their respective accolades on Tuesday evening.

Both American acts triumphed at the socially distanced event, with Taylor claiming the coveted Global Icon award while California based indie trio Haim were named Best International Group.

But while health and safety guidelines in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic resulted in the cancellation of any after-parties in London, they still let their hair down after returning to their hotel.

Good times: The after-parties may well be off, but BRIT Award winners Taylor Swift and Haim still ensured it was a late night as they celebrated their respective accolades on Tuesday evening

Taking to Instagram shortly after the annual ceremony – which was delayed by three months due to Britain’s recent lockdown measures – Taylor, 31, shared a snap of herself downing wine with the three sisters as they celebrated their win.

Captioning the image, she joked:  ‘We meet up every Tuesday night for dinner and a glass of wine.’

Both acts were in the mood to party, with Haim – sisters Este, Alana and Danielle – recognised following the release of third album Women in Music, Pt. III.

Meanwhile Taylor picked up the biggest award of the night after enjoying more than two decades of consistent success and releasing nine albums – two of which were recorded during lockdown.

The singer also made history by becoming the first female artist to be presented with the Global Icon Award.

Before collecting the award she was praised by many of her fellow stars in a video tribute, including longtime friends Selana Gomez, Ed Sheeran and music legend Annie Lennox for her incredible collection of music.

Acknowledging her win after taking to the stage, she said: ‘That video, anyone who was in that video, Selena, Zoe, Ed, Griff and my soul left my body when Annie Lennox appeared. I’m really proud to be part of this musical community, but what we really needed was the help and support of the NHS thank you for everything you’d done for us.

‘I am so indebted and grateful to my British fans, I love you so much for everything you’d done for me, we’ve had so many amazing memories in the last 15 years, from playing Shepherd’s Bush Empire, to Wembley Stadium, to the O2 Arena, and because of you last year I almost played Glastonbury!

Noting the Covid pandemic, which brought much of the world to a halt, Taylor continued: ‘We all know what happened next, the world changed, and I ended up putting out three albums instead. Making Folklore and Evermore was the most unique experience I’ve ever had.

‘I want to thank my friends and family who know exactly who they are. If there’s one thing I’ve learned is you have to look around everyday. Never take them for granted, there are so many incredible new artists in this room tonight, and so many people watching who ahve goals and dreams and ambisiton for themselves.

‘We live in a world where anyone has the right to say anything they want about you at any time, but please remember that you have the right to prove them wrong, I love you so much thank you so much for this beautiful honour, this is amazing.’
