Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel from Legendary Pictures lands at Netflix

Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel starring Elsie Fisher lands at Netflix which follows the events of the original 1974 classic

Leatherface is firing up the chainsaw once again with a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel landing at Netflix, starring Elsie Fisher.

Netflix secured the global rights to the sequel, which is a follow-up to the original 1974 classic, set several years later, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new movie takes place, ‘in a setting where Leatherface hasn’t been seen or heard from since.’

While there have been a number of Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels and reboots throughout the years, this is said to pick up where the original classic, directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Hooper and Kim Henkel, left off.

The aim is to bring the, ‘most notorious horror franchise back to life in the same bold and provocative manner that it was first introduced to the world.’

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre debuted in 1974 and is still considered one of the most influential horror films of all time.

The story followed a group of friends who run into a family of cannibals en route to their grandfather’s grave in Texas.

The story and the Leatherface character played by Gunnar Hansen were loosely inspired by serial killer Ed Gein, though the plot is largely fictional.

The original movie made over $30 million at the box office in 1974, from a miniscule $140,000 budget.

While little is known about the plot of the new movie, the cast includes Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2 U), Jacob Latimore (Sleight) and Moe Dunford (Vikings).

David Blue Garcia (Tejano) directed the film, which shot in Bulgaria last year, from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin (Cobweb), based on a story by producers Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe 2) and Rodolfo Sayagues (Evil Dead).

Alvarez and Sayagues produce through their Bad Hombres company, along with Kim Henkel, Ian Henkel, and Pat Cassidy of Exurbia Films.

Netflix and Legendary Pictures previously teamed up for their hit Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill.

The movie was one of the streaming service’s biggest hits in 2020, with a sequel now in active development.

The last entry into the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise was 2017’s Leatherface, a prequel that took place before the events of the original 1974 classic.
