The Bachelorette: Connor Brennan and Katie Thurston both weep after she sends him home from ABC show

Connor Brennan and Katie Thurston wept after she shockingly sent him home on Monday’s episode of The Bachelorette on ABC.

Katie, 30, told the men at the final rose ceremony that she didn’t have any time to waste and needed to concentrate her efforts on spending time with the men she knew she had connections with.

But before it even came to that pivotal moment, Katie had made the hard decision to send home Connor, 29, a math teacher from Nashville, Tennessee, after kissing him on their date and revealing to him that there just wasn’t a spark.

Connor was so happy when he received his date card for the one-on-one that read ‘Let’s let your love shine bright.’

‘My mind is blown,’ he said later in a confessional. ‘I’m so f***ing excited.’

Katie earlier said in a confessional that she felt that she was still in the ‘friend zone’ with Connor and wanted to see if they could get past that.

She surprised Connor by bringing Kaitlyn Bristowe, 36, and her fiancé Jason Tartick, 32, another former Bachelorette contestant, on the date to help bring out that spark with Connor.

Kaitlyn told Katie that she also started off as friends with Jason.

‘Time is everything,’ Kaitlyn told her. ‘Kisses can change things.’

Kaitlyn said to the camera that this date was really make or break for Katie and Connor.

The four played games and then Katie and Connor went to a couch to talk as Kaitlyn and Jason watched.

Eventually, Katie and Connor kissed.

Later when Connor was getting ready for the evening portion of the date, he gushed about how well the date was going.

Katie, though, hadn’t changed for the evening and made her way to Connor’s room in a sweatshirt and jeans.

Connor said to the camera, ‘I want her to meet my family. I definitely see a future.’

Katie knocked on Connor’s door. She was visibly upset and crying when she told him that he was a great man, but that she didn’t feel that spark.

‘You have done nothing wrong,’ she said. ‘When we kissed there was something missing in that kiss…something was missing.’

Connor started crying and said, ‘It’s ok. It’s worth it just to have met you.’

‘Thank you for everything,’ Katie told him.

The two hugged and Katie told him, ‘I wish nothing but the best for you.’

Katie said to the camera, ‘I just hope when he leaves here tonight he knows how worthy he is of finding love.’

Connor said to the camera that the whole experience was heartbreaking especially starting off so strong.

‘How bad of a kisser am I?’ he said.

The men all hugged Connor when he returned to the house and told them that he was going home.

It sounded as if Connor continued to cry in the limo as it drove off.

Blake Moynes, 30, a wildlife manager, from Tayshia’s season, used the opportunity to spend more time with Katie.

He blared a song from a boombox outside Katie’s windows in Say Anything style until she noticed and Blake told her that he knew she could use some cheering up.

‘Come up here,’ Katie told him.

‘When I’m with Blake I don’t care about anything else except him and I,’ she said to the camera. ‘I’m in trouble.’

Blake told the camera ‘It’s impossible to deny that Katie and I are going to fall in love. And it’s so exciting to think that’s going to happen and that it’s going to happen soon. I feel like Katie is going to be my fiancé. ..I feel I am in my own love story and now I’m just ready to enjoy my own happy ending.’

Earlier in the show Kaitlyn explained to the man that Katie wanted the men to withhold ‘self care down there’ and dubbed it ‘Operation Whoa Whoa.’

‘Stay off the lotion, stop running the showers,’ Bristowe told them. ‘Katie wants to see which one of you can hold out.’

When she asked if anyone was taking extra long showers that they needed to worry about, several of the guys pointed to Blake and everyone laughed.

Connor said in a confessional that ‘this sucks. A lot is going to change. No more letting your freak flag fly.’

Kaitlyn then left them with a date card which turned out to be for Justin Glaze, 26, an investment sales consultant from Ellicott City, Maryland.

‘Justin, I can picture a future with you,’ read the card.

The one-on-one date turned out to be a mock wedding. Their first activity was writing vows. Katie told him that she loved Justin’s playful side.

Katie changed into a wedding dress and Justin changed into a tuxedo. He told her ‘you are gorgeous’ after she walked down their mock aisle.

‘I promise to do everything to keep that infectious smile on your face,’ said Justin in his vows to Katie.

Katie told him in her vow ‘our marriage is a canvas so let’s paint something beautiful.’

The two then posed for wedding pictures and shared a wedding cake.

Later that evening, Katie shared with Justin that the wedding was fun, but actually hard on her because her father was not around to walk her down the aisle. She told him that not only had her father died, but that she learned after his death that he was not her biological father.

‘My mom kept that a secret,’ said Katie.

She then shared with Justin that her biological father wants to be in her life, but she didn’t know how to build a relationship with him.

‘How do I build a relationship with this man, I know nothing about,’ Katie said.

Justin thanked her for sharing.

‘When you are feeling down, I want to be that person who is there for you no matter what,’ Justin told her.

At the end of the date, Katie gave Justin a rose. She said in a confessional that ‘Justin is someone I can really see myself falling for…and the beginning of what could be love.’

Back at the house Hunter Montgomery, 34, a software strategist from San Angelo, Texas, shared with Greg Grippo, 27, a marketing sales representative from Edison, NJ, that he had already decided who were Katie’s top four picks.

Greg said later in a confessional, said that he thought Hunter was an avid Bachelor fan who was clearly into the strategy. When James Bonsall, 30, a software salesman from La Jolla, heard about Hunter’s strategy plan, he shared it with the other guys in the house and told them he thought Hunter was this ‘super fan.’

‘He seems to know every detail of every episode of the show,’ James said to Aaron Clancy, 26, an insurance agent from San Diego.

‘A f***ing little sneakster,’ said Aaron.

The group date for the remaining men was dubbed ‘Great Royal Group debate’ date and was hosted by two drag queen all stars Monét X Change and Shea Couleé who taught the men ‘the art of throwing shade.’

Each of the men were given a ‘burn book’ to write their quips. They then stood behind a podium and made their case to Katie as to why they are worthy but also why the others were not. Shea Couleé said the men needed to take their gloves off and asked who in the group did they think was not compatible with Katie.

Brendan Scanzano, 26, a firefighter trainee from Toronto, Canada, singled out Hunter and said, ‘It’s cute that you already have a top four list. Funny that you are in my bottom four.’

Hunter denied he had a top four list. When a few of the other contestants backed up Brendan and said they had also heard about Hunter’s list, Katie responded by saying ‘awkward.’

Monét X Change said ‘this list has got me all hot and bothered.’ She wanted to know what Hunter’s feelings for Katie were and Hunter told her ‘I’m falling in love, absolutely.’

When asked who the biggest ‘try hard in the house’ James seconded that noting that it was Hunter.

‘You are a super fan,’ James said to Hunter in front of the group. ‘You are commenting on the bachelor on blogs and on forums.’

Aaron jumped on the bash Hunter bandwagon and said, ‘We all know that you are a leprechaun, dog. I know Katie has a heart of gold but you can’t add Katie to your pot.’

When Monét X Change told Hunter it was his turn to roast the men, he said he didn’t have any insults for the other men. He instead spoke directly to Katie and said ‘when I find the woman, I want to spend the rest of my life with. I will never take advantage and I think that woman is you.’

Later that night, Katie said she wanted to get to know the men better as they get closer to the hometown visits.

Hunter said in a confessional that he knew that the other men were going to come for him, but that he wasn’t afraid of ‘their words.’ He said ‘they can talk, and talk and talk all they want.’

Greg and Katie both told each other they were falling for each other. She said in a confessional that her relationship with Greg ‘excites me. It reassures me that this is working.’

Blake told Katie that he was trying to abstain from ‘self care’ and that he had so far for one day. Katie asked if that meant that they shouldn’t kiss before the two started kissing.

James used his time with Katie to talk about Hunter. He told her that he thought Hunter’s behavior was ‘calculated.’ Aaron, and Tré Cooper, 26, a software engineer from Covington, Georgia, also used their time with Katie to talk about their misgivings about Hunter.

Katie then pulled Hunter aside. He denied to her that he was being calculating. Katie told him after their talk that she didn’t feel good. She said in her confessional that she was ‘physically ill.’ She ran to the bathroom and it sounded like she threw up.

When Hunter returned to the group, he told them he had the worst conversation with her. Katie returned to the group and told them she was going to ‘call the night’ and that she wasn’t going to hand out a rose. She told them she would see them at the cocktail party.

At the cocktail rose ceremony, Katie said she was at the point where time with the men wasn’t going to make a difference. She cancelled the cocktail party and told them she would see them at the rose ceremony.

There were only six roses, which meant that four of the men were going home. She called Hunter first and then called him outside to talk with a rose in her hand. Katie told him she was ‘looking for clarity.’ He told Katie he wrote her a love letter because he was ‘on fire with emotion.’

When Hunter returned, he did not have a rose and Katie resumed the rose ceremony. She said she didn’t have time for drama and was ready to ‘find my person.’

She gave roses to Blake, Andrew, Gregg, Michael A., Mike P., and Brendan, sending Hunter, Aaron, James and Tre home.

As Hunter left, clearly mad, he said to the camera that it was going to take a while for him to get closure and added, ‘I don’t think she made the right decision.’

The Bachelorette will return next Monday on ABC.
