As a longtime judge on The Block, Shaynna Blaze certainly knows how to use interior design to maximise the value of a home.

And on Monday, the 57-year-old revealed her best piece of advice for boosting the sale price of a property before putting it on the market.

She told Daily Mail Australia at the AACTA Awards on Monday that the most important factor to consider – above all others – is lighting.

‘I think lighting is the best thing. I think that’s the way you create energy and mood,’ she said.

‘You can actually make a medium house look very high-end and expensive with the right lighting, so never underestimate it.’

In addition to seeking expert advice on lighting, Shaynna said there’s other things you can do to secure a good price on your property during the Covid-19 recession.

She explained that vendors should emulate the latest Block winners, Jimmy and Tam Wilkins, by ‘selling an actual lifestyle’ instead of just a home.

‘If you want to sell your house within this time [the economic downturn], sell the dream, sell the story of the home,’ she said.

‘That’s what people want. They want to be romanced.’

This year’s season of the Channel Nine renovation show saw all five houses sell for more than $3.8million.

And Shaynna, who has been a judge on the The Block since 2012, said that it was ‘unexpected’ to see those results.

‘In a pandemic, to get those prices was really phenomenal,’ she said. ‘The houses were worth it, but to get those prices was unexpected.’
