Tommy Lee Jones has replaced Harrison Ford in the cast of the Amazon legal drama, The Burial.

The actor, 75, will co-star with Jamie Foxx, 53, in the forthcoming project, which Maggie Betts is set to direct, with Doug Wright as screenwriter, Deadline reported on Wednesday.

According to a studio synopsis, the film, which is based on a true story, centers around a bankrupt funeral home owner named Ray Loewen in a lawsuit with business rival Jeremiah O’Keefe over a handshake deal gone wrong.

O’Keefe, who hired flamboyant attorney Willie Gary to handle the case, was awarded $500 million from the jury.

Jones in the film replaced Ford, who he shared the screen with in his Oscar-winning performance in The Fugitive in 1993.

Foxx is a producer on the film, which is based on a story by Jonathan Harr published in The New Yorker in late-1999. 

The Oscar-winning entertainer signed on to the project last year, Deadline reported.

Jones, a four-time Academy Award nominee, has been seen in recent years in films such as 2020’s The Comeback Trail with Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman; 2020’s Wander with Aaron Eckhart; and 2019’s Ad Astra alongside Brad Pitt.

Director Betts won the Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Director in 2017 for her work on the motion picture Novitiate.

Ford, who was last seen in 2020’s The Call of the Wild, is currently filming the fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise.
