Woman reveals Hinge date sent request for $4 he spent on coffee after things went wrong between them

A woman has spoken out to blast a Hinge match who sent her an Apple Pay request for the $4 he’d spent on her coffee because she was too busy with work and school to arrange a second date.

Katlyn Phipps, from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was in for a shock one morning when she woke up and found an Apple Pay request from a man she had gone on one casual coffee date with.

During their meetup, he paid for her coffee, but when their second date fell through due to Katlyn’s busy schedule, he decided he wanted his money back.

Mortified, Katlyn – who is a nursing student – opened up about the ordeal on TikTok where it quickly went viral.

Katlyn explained that she wanted to go out with him again, but because she is a full-time student and part-time employee, it is hard for her to find time to date.

She called the man ‘trash’ and ‘delusional,’ and slammed him for his ‘lack of communication and understanding’ of her intense schedule.

The video gained more than 250,000 views in a matter of days, and many people put the unnamed man on blast for his eye-brow raising actions.

In the clip, Katlyn showed a screenshot of their text message conversation while the song Circles by Megan Thee Stallion played in the background.

In it, you could see that he requested the $4 with no explanation, so she texted him and asked, ‘I just woke up. Why did you request $4?’

He then responded, ‘I assume the second try for breakfast is canceled by now, so that’s for the coffee last week since it seems like we’re never gonna go out again.

‘Really just don’t understand what games you are trying to play.’

Katlyn pointed to the messages and shook her head in disgust. She captioned it: ‘Things men have: the audacity.’

Their interaction sparked a firestorm of responses, with many people flooding the comment section with scathing remarks about the man.

‘I would have sent him $8 and said, “Use the extra to buy yourself some manners,”‘ one person joked.

Another added: ‘Request him for wasted makeup and other things.’

‘Four dollars? Are you for real?’ someone else said. A fourth comment read, ‘How broke is this man?’

‘If he is tripping over $4, he shouldn’t even be dating,’ a different TikTok user agreed. ‘He should be picking up extra shifts.’

‘I would be embarrassed to request $4,’ a viewer wrote.

However, some people were on the man’s side. One person quipped, ‘Why not? You can’t pay for your own coffee?’

Another said: ‘Just pay it and move on. Geez.’

‘I feel both parties could’ve just stated their intentions and communicated better,’ someone else wrote.

‘In my opinion, both sides are wrong and both sides should’ve done better.’

In another TikTok, Katlyn explained that she got a medium coffee during their date, which he ‘offered to pay for.’

‘I did not ask him to pay,’ she said.

‘He kept wanting to see me after that but I’m busy. I was like, “Maybe this weekend but I just worked at the hospital, I have 12 hour shifts, so I don’t know.”‘

She then shared her response to the man. In it, she explained that she is a full-time student and part-time employee, which leaves her with very little free time.

She also revealed that her mom is suffering from a rare form of cancer called Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis, so she spends much of her life helping her.

The message read, ‘OK [well], let me be crystal clear so that we’re on the same page.

‘Let’s get some things straight before I humble your ego. Fact number one, I am a full-time student as well as a part-to-full time employee.

‘Face number two, I have an extremely sick mother back home who needs my help doing basic tasks and will come before any random “man” I’ve met on social media.

‘I will absolutely not apologize for putting my education and family before anyone else.

‘I am sorry I’m a busy person but it is what it is. I didn’t know I had to make a long term commitment after getting food with you once.

‘I’m sorry that the lack of my presence has hurt your ego so bad that you felt the need to request $4 for a coffee.

‘I will be more than happy to send you that since it must’ve broken the bank.

‘Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let me be crystal clear when I say this… No, I will not be able to meet with you this weekend.

‘How about instead of your petty comments you try to be understanding of someone with a busy schedule and work with that.

‘Your lack of communication and understanding has clarified that this will not be progressing into anything more. Thank you and have a blessed weekend.’

He then wrote back, ‘I guess you forgot the part where you’re the one that told me like five plus times that you wanted to go out/hangout again.

‘If you don’t have time or don’t want to then why don’t you just say that instead of leading someone down a false path that you met on a dating app.’

She added in a third clip, ‘I think he made that part up in his head or he’s just delusional because he asked me every single time to hang out.

‘I did say back I wanted to, I was like, “Yeah, I want to, I just can’t this week.” I didn’t think I had to see someone every week just wanted to wait until things settled down a little bit but he didn’t understand that.’

She also joked, ‘This is basically the reason I will end up alone and never get married. Because all man are trash.’
