However the second picture ‘Risen’ showed a tattered Justice League flag being raised and the third ‘Reborn’ showed a roll of film sitting in the wreckage.

Although Zack directed a great deal of the 2017 movie Justice League he left the project after the tragic suicide of his daughter Autumn.

Zack retreated from work in order to focus on family matters leaving The Avengers director Joss Whedon to step in and finish the film.

The movie that eventually got made was a huge flop at the box office with Forbes predicting a loss north of $50 million for Warner Bros.

Many critics were also scathing about the theatrical cut of the movie with the result that it has a dismal 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Whedon had added more jokes and lightened up the tone of the film in keeping with his previous work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Owen Gleiberman of Variety called the finished product ‘the essence of generic competence’ and noted: ‘There’s hardly a trope in it you haven’t seen before.’

In short order a fan movement to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut took off online and was endorsed by some of the film’s stars including Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher.

'When we left the movie, I just took the drive of the cut on it': 'I honestly never thought it would be anything,' he admitted to the Hollywood Reporter last year.

Zack revealed in March 2019 that he had a cut of the film and by that November even Ben Affleck who played Batman and Gal Gadot who played Wonder Woman were online saying it should be released.

The director managed to screen his cut for DC, Warner Bros and HBO executives who agreed to go forward with getting it out to viewers.

Work on his cut continued last year in spite of the coronavirus pandemic and more footage was even filmed in the autumn.

It appears that the Snyder Cut will come out as a four-hour movie contrary to previous reports that it might be a mini-series instead.
