4 Unai Emery signings Mikel Arteta ruthlessly moved on and where they are now

Mikel Arteta has proved a ruthless individual in the transfer market, particularly with the players Unai Emery signed while in charge of Arsenal.

There have been some successful imports, such as Kieran Tierney, Bernd Leno and Gabriel Martinelli.

But Arteta has been keen to bring in his own players and has not spared the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and William Saliba.

All four are currently away from north London, with Sokratis leaving permanently in January.

The other three are out on loan but their futures remain up in the air with the likelihood that they will also be on their way out for good – but where are they now?

Matteo Guendouzi

Guendouzi fell out with Arteta last year and was allowed to leave for Hertha Berlin for the season on loan.

The France Under-21 international has been tipped for stardom and enjoyed a fine start to his career in the Bundesliga.

But in recent weeks, he has been battling for a starting position after a change in management with Pal Dardai now in charge.

Lucas Torreira

The search for a defensive midfielder in the summer spelt bad news for Torreira, who was clearly not fancied by Arteta, with a move to Atletico Madrid beckoning.

On the face of it, it looked like a perfect transfer for the Uruguayan joining a top side in the Champions League but it has been tough work for the 25-year-old.

Reports emerged in January that Arsenal were looking to cancel the loan because of the lack of football Torreira was getting, which has not changed in recent weeks with just 17 minutes of La Liga action this month.

The veteran defender has had a long career in football but was regarded as surplus to requirements by Arteta and did not make a single appearance under his stewardship this season.

It led to an early exit in January with a return to Greece in the shape of Olympiacos, where he has solidified a starting position.

A reunion with the Gunners did not take long as Arsenal knocked the Super League champions out of the Europa League.

William Saliba

Regarded as a huge up and coming talent in France, the centre-back failed to impress Arteta during pre-season and was left out of the Europa League squad for the campaign.

The 20-year-old has yet to make his debut for the Gunners despite a £30m under Emery and he signed for Nice on loan in January.

The youngster has been a regular in Ligue 1 and will hope his Arsenal career can be kickstarted in the summer.
