Barcelona might be in financial ruin but that has not stopped them from forking out over £50million ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

A deal looks set to go ahead with Manchester City that will see Ferran Torres go to the Nou Camp in a blockbuster move.

It will see Pep Guardiola more than double his money on the Spaniard, who only signed last year from Valencia.

But Xavi is desperate to see new signings after arriving as manager and president Joan Laporta is keen to adhere to his wishes – with attacking players high on the agenda.

Torres had been eyed for some time with the Spanish coach desperate to bring in wide players who can play up top as well.

The City star ticks all the boxes for Barca, while the 21-year-old made it clear to his current club that he wanted to leave to play more first-team football.

Torres might feel hard done by at the Etihad, where he performed brilliantly when called upon but was not given many chances under Guardiola.

In just four Premier League appearances, the Spain international has scored twice and assisted one while a fractured foot has also compounded his misery this season.

And while Barcelona are getting a top youngster for £50m, many are confused amid their current financial predicament – which has left them in a mountain of debt.

Yet Xavi and Laporta have plenty of players on their books – several who no longer fit in at the Nou Camp and could be sold.

The biggest star being linked with an exit is Frenkie de Jong, who is valued at £81m, and could be allowed to leave to cut costs at the Catalan club.

Manchester United and Liverpool have been interested in the past while Chelsea and Arsenal could also be taking a closer look with their issues in midfield.

Another player being urged to quit is Sergino Dest, valued at £27m, after falling down the pecking order under Xavi while Bayern Munich and City are two of the frontrunners for the American’s signature.

Three players regularly linked with exits but with no suitors keen are Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele – priced at £18m, £4.5m and £45m respectively.

While their prices have already been cut drastically, Xavi may have to go one step forward and allow them to leave for even less to coax a buyer into opening talks.

However, Dembele could end up staying with the player and coach reportedly keen on extending his contract.

A young spark who has fizzled out could also be on the way out in Riqui Puig, who many had tipped to be the next Xavi when he broke onto the scene two years ago.

Now with the real Xavi in charge, the 22-year-old has made little impact and the manager wants the £13.3m rated star gone.

Another player on the exit list is Clement Lenglet, who peeved fans when he was spotting laughing after Barcelona’s exit from the Champions League.

At £16m, the Frenchman could prove a bargain for someone after losing his way at the Nou Camp while selling all seven mentioned players could be a major boost to Barca’s coffers.

That would bring in over £200m – cutting down their debt by a significant amount – though with Xavi desperate for new signings, it might be some time before Barcelona are back in the black.
