Jurgen Klopp gives squad update ahead of AC Milan clash

Liverpool play their final Champions League Group B match when they face AC Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night.

The Reds have won all five of their games so far and confirmed their place in the knockout stages of the competition with a 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at Anfield in their fourth match.

However, Milan still have something to play for as they also look to join their visitors in the Last 16, and are currently 3rd in the group with four points from five games.

Yet a win here would see them finish in second place should they better Porto’s result, who are a point and a place above them as they prepare to host Atletico Madrid on the same night. All three teams can still advance to the next round.

Having already won the group, Jurgen Klopp may opt for a number of changes here in order to rotate the squad and rest some of his best players ahead of their return to league action on Saturday.

AC Milan vs Liverpool will kick-off at 8pm on Tuesday, December 7 at the San Siro.

A Fikayo Tomori own goal put the Reds ahead after nine minutes, before Milan scored twice in quick succession before half-time to turn the game around and stun Anfield. However, Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson scored after the break to turn the game on its head once more and secure all three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Team news

This is a must win game for Milan and so it can be expected that they will play their strongest team possible, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic expected to lead the line after being rested at the weekend.

However, they will be without Olivier Giroud, Samu Castillejo, Ante Rebic, Davide Calabria, Pietro Pellegri (groin) and Simon Kjaer (ACL) for this fixture.

Jurgen Klopp will most likely rest and rotate his squad for this match, although Roberto Firmino (thigh), Curtis Jones (eye) and Harvey Elliot (ankle) all remain out.

Naby Keita (thigh) and Joe Gomez (calf) are expected to make their long-awaited returns to the squad for this fixture, but whether or not Klopp will decide to include them is another thing.

With their Last 16 place secured, the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas, Takumi Minamino and Saturday’s match winner against Wolves, Divock Origi, are all likely to be handed starts.
