Alex Morgan makes Tottenham debut off the bench in Reading draw

Morgan had not played a match in around 15 months, and gave birth to her daughter Charlie – who was watching from the stands of The Hive in a Spurs shirt – in May.

Injuries and a lack of match fitness had prevented the two-time World Cup winner from appearing for Spurs before this weekend, but Morgan was named among the substitutes on Saturday.

A goal within the first 15 minutes saw the visitors take the lead as Brooke Chaplen met a cross and fired a header home.

The hosts hit back 10 minutes later when full-back Ashleigh Neville flicked in a header from a corner for her first goal of the season to level matters.

Former Lyon striker Morgan, who made the switch to north London in September, came on in the 70th minute as her side sought out a winner before they settled for a share of the spoils.

Following the game, Morgan said of daughter Charlie being in attendance: “It’s fun to look up after the match and see her there supporting me.”
