The highs and lows of Alexis Sanchez’s Premier League career

Former Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez has been left “angry” by his lack of first team action at Inter Milan, according to Chile head coach Martin Lasarte.

The forward has been rebuilding his career in Serie A following a nightmare 18-month stay in Manchester.

Sanchez forged a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most influential attackers during his three-and-a-half-year spell with Arsenal.

The Chilean’s record of 80 strikes in 166 appearances for the Gunners was enough to tempt United to swoop.

But the 32-year-old failed to replicate that form at Old Trafford – and quickly became a big-money flop.

Despite his issues at Inter, Sanchez continues to be a pivotal performer for his country and laid on an assist in Chile’s 2-0 win over Paraguay on Sunday night.

“Alexis’ second half was extraordinary to me. He looked like Alexis at his best,” purred Chile boss Lasarte after the game.

“Surely, he is angry because he always wants more. Last week I heard people saying that he had no minutes in his legs and was not in top condition.”

Sanchez was a key player as Inter marched to domestic glory last season, with the Chilean racking up seven goals and five assists in his 30 Serie A appearances.

But the departure of boss Antonio Conte has left Sanchez on the periphery at the San Siro this year.

The striker has managed just 70 minutes of action in his four appearances under new chief Simone Inzaghi – all from the bench.

Sanchez endured a nightmare spell at Manchester United

With Sanchez struggling to dislodge Lautaro Martinez, it’s expected that Inter may try to offload the Chilean’s whopping wages in January just as United did.

There were even reports last month that Inter have already told the ex-Arsenal man that he’s free to leave the club.

And earlier this month, the Chilean took to Instagram to post a story that showed a Ferrari car that was isolated and covered in sand alongside a message in Spanish as reported by Football Italia.

Sanchez wrote alongside the caption: “Realise that you can be worth a lot, but if you are in the wrong place, you are not going to shine.”

Sanchez remains a key performer for Chile despite his struggles at Inter and United

Despite his reputation taking a significant blow during his nightmare spell at Old Trafford, it’s been reported that a return to the Premier League could be on the cards for Sanchez should he depart the San Siro.

West Ham were linked with the forward earlier this month, while French giants Marseille have also been credited with an interest in the veteran forward.

It would be an intriguing twist for Sanchez to return to England to attempt to revive his career – although it remains to be seen if the Hammers would be able to afford his huge salary.
