Archer begins ‘intensive rehabilitation’ after elbow surgery

ofra Archer has begun “an intensive rehabilitation” following surgery on his troublesome right elbow, with more to be known in a month’s time about a potential time frame for his return.

Archer, a key figure for England in this winter’s T20 World Cup and Ashes series, pulled up in his first-class return for Sussex against Kent two weeks ago, leading to surgery last week.

The ECB issued a statement on Wednesday, saying that a return date would be known in a month or so. He is expected to miss much of the summer schedule, which ends in mid-September with the last of five Tests against India.

“Archer will now commence an intensive rehabilitation period working with the ECB and Sussex medical teams,” read the ECB statement.

“His progress will be reviewed by his consultant in approximately four weeks at which point further guidance will be provided as to when he can return to bowling.”
