Arsenal add four players to squad for Europa League clash – and one could start

Arsenal have flown to Norway for their Europa League group stage clash against Molde with four fresh faces on board who weren’t in the squad to face Leeds.

The Gunners drew 0-0 at Elland Road on Sunday in a game that saw Nicolas Pepe sent off for a headbutt.

Mikel Arteta has been holding talks with his inconsistent winger in a bid to help his rediscover his form, and Pepe is expected to start against Molde as Arteta uses him in Europe during his three-game domestic suspension.

The Ivorian is likely to be one of just a handful of players, or even the only one, who started that Leeds game to begin this one though, as four youngsters have flown out with the Gunners and will be in the matchday squad.

Emile Smith Rowe could be set for a chance to kick start his Arsenal career having impressed on loan at Huddersfield last season, while Folarin Balogun will hope for another chance in this competition having come off the bench against Dundalk.

Meanwhile Ben Cottrell and Miguel Azeez, two players yet to make their senior debuts, are also with the party.

Of those four youngsters it is Cottrell who could be in line for a start as per our colleagues at football.london, who cite an interview in which the central midfielder discussed his qualities.

“I’m now an attacking midfielder,” he said.

“I enjoy making and scoring goals but midfielders need to make a contribution defending and that comes naturally to me because of my time as a defender.

“But it’s an area I want to develop further. I like to learn from players like Steven Gerrard who could make and score goals but was phenomenal defensively too.”

“I feel really honoured that I’m at a club like Arsenal where I have the opportunity to be the best I can be. It’s a dream job.”
