Arsenal and West Ham tell Hibs to drop £5m asking price for Doig

rsenal and West Ham have told Hibernian to drop their asking price for Josh Doig before making a serious move for the Scottish teenager.

The two London rivals are among a number of clubs tracking Doig but they are not willing to meet Hibernian’s asking price of up to £5million plus add-ons.

Watford are the only club to have entered into serious talks over a deal for the 19-year-old but their interest has cooled since signing Danny Rose on a free transfer.

West Ham boss David Moyes is keen to add depth to his squad at left-back, while Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is seeking more cover for Kieran Tierney after signing Nuno Tavares.

Both clubs, however, want Hibs to drop their asking price to around £2.5m if they are to follow up on their interest.

While there is plenty of interest in Doig, the defender says he is focussing on getting fit again after suffering from coronavirus.

“There’s always speculation, I know that myself,” he said speaking recently. “For me, just now, it’s about getting back fully fit, because I was out with Covid. I think it’s taken away my edge and my fitness a wee bit.

“For me, just now, I’m so happy at Hibs; I absolutely love it here. They’ve made me the player I am, taking me in when I had just turned 17.”
