Mikel Arteta will be on the lookout for any potential ways to improve his squad in the January transfer window as Arsenal continue to turn their fortunes around
Arsenal will be hoping to continue their fine run of form when they host Claudio Ranieri’s Watford on Sunday, but Mikel Arteta may have one eye on events elsewhere as the winter transfer window approaches.
Arteta is finally starting to reap the rewards of his summer transfer signings after a poor start to the season with a nine-game unbeaten run.
Summer arrival Aaron Ramsdale has arguably been the pick of the bunch so far and the 23-year-old has already made himself Arteta’s No.1.
Elsewhere, £50million signing Ben White has settled in well too and has helped sure up the Arsenal backline in recent weeks.
But if Arsenal are to challenge the very best in the Premier League, then they must continue to improve their squad wherever possible and Arteta could be set for more deals when the window reopens in january.
Here, Mirror Sport takes a look at the latest transfer rumours at the Emirates.
Gunners in Vlahovic talks
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing highly-rated Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic in January.
According to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal officials met with those from Fiorentina this week to discuss a potential deal for the 21-year-old.
Fiorentina are said to be holding out for an offer in the region of £68.5m to sign the forward, who has already netted ten times in 12 games this season.
Vlahovic’s current deal with the Serie A outfit runs until 2023 and he has so far refused to renew his deal, meaning La Viola may look to cash in on the forward while they can.
Klopp’s raises doubts over Ox
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a return to Arsenal in January and Jurgen Klopp’s comments have raised further doubts over his future.
The former England midfielder has seen his Liverpool career plagued by injuries, which has limited his playing time at Anfield.
Liverpool would reportedly consider allowing Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave, although that may change after their persistent problems in midfield.
“He played a really good game against Atletico (in midweek), very mature,” Klopp said.
“He had his ‘Oxlade-Chamberlain’ moments – good with the ball and all that kind of stuff – but we need ‘Mr Oxlade-Chamberlain’ as well, the mature one, the calm one, the closing one.
“We had a proper talk before the game about what we expect and he fulfilled the role really well and I was happy with him.
“The problem is, when you haven’t played for a long time and you consider the situation, you think you have to convince people.”
Mavropanos open to Arsenal exit
Arsenal defender Dinos Mavropanos has hinted he could leave the Emirates on a permanent deal next summer.
Mavropanos has struggled to make an impact at Arsenal and is currently on a season-long loan with Bundesliga side Stuttgart.
And the 23-year-old has not ruled out staying in Germany on a permanent basis.
“Of course I can imagine that,” he told BILD. “But we have to wait and see.
“For me, everything is perfect at the moment. The club and the city.”
