Arteta delivers verdict on Arsenal’s win over Tottenham

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given his seal of approval to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal celebration in the north London derby victory over Tottenham.

Aubameyang replicated Henry’s iconic knee slide celebration after doubling the Gunners lead in the emphatic 3-1 win.

Henry was in attendance at the Emirates as Mikel Arteta‘s men crushed their bitterest rivals with a rampant first-half display.

The Gunners were devastating on the counter and took the game away from Spurs with three first half goals.

Emile Smith Rowe, Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka all netted before the break to leave Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in disarray.

Aubameyang’s goal was finished with typical coolness but eagle eyed fans were particularly impressed that he chose to copy one of the club’s most iconic moments in celebration.

The Gabonese international knee slid in front of the away fans, in a similar fashion to Henry’s legendary celebration in a 3-0 victory over Spurs at Highbury in November 2002.

“It is I guess the north London derby celebration!” Henry joked on Sky Sports, reacting to the celebration.

“I guess on the day you can do it at your ground, away from home it’s a bit more tricky,” the Frenchman added when asked about Aubameyang directing his attention towards the opposition supporters.

Aubameyang’s second league goal was created from a brisk move from inspired playmaker Smith Rowe and left-back Kieran Tierney.

“I think it was a great goal, great action, Kieran (Tierney) give me the ball and I knew Emile (Smith Rowe) would run I just have to follow then he gave me the cut back so well played to them,” Aubameyang told Sky Sports at full-time.

“You know Arsenal can be proud of these boys because they are great guys doing well.

Aubameyang, 32, was delighted with the impact of his fearless young teammates.

“It’s quite easy when you have boys like this who always listen and always ready to learn so it’s really easy,” he added.

“I try to give them advice sometimes but it’s important that they feel free when they play and that’s what they did when they played and that’s why it’s amazing.”

On the recent upturn in form, he continued: “I think we are doing a good run of games now, I think after the game against City it was time to have a chat between us players and this is what we did.

“We want to go forward and win games, this was important for us to make things clear and I think we are doing well right now and the feeling is good.”
