Transfer update: Arsenal ‘plan’ player-plus-cash Maddison move

Arsenal have already spent more than £75million, but with just over four weeks until the window closes, the Gunners intend on remaining busy.

Thus far, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ben White have arrived, with Mikel Arteta desperate to revamp his squad.

There promises to be more incomings however, according to reports, Arsenal remain in the market for a creative midfielder, while there is still a need for a deputy to Bernd Leno in goal.

Along with those two positions, there have been extensive links with Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham as Arteta looks for a potential Alexandre Lacazette replacement.

Along with potential arrivals, there could also be more departures as Arteta continues to shape the squad in his image.

With that in mind, here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours:

Reports in Italy claim the Gunners have made contact with Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu’s representatives over a potential deal.

The Japan international has been extensively linked with Arsenals’ north London rivals Tottenham, with the belief that a move could be imminent.

However, talks have stalled due to the 22-year-old’s participation in the Olympics and Corriere dello Sport (via the Express) claim Arsenal remain in the mix.

The Gunners are said to be continuing talks behind the scenes with Tomiyasu’s people as they look to strengthen their ranks.

Tomiyasu’s people are desperate to secure him a move to the Premier League, with other top-flight teams also monitoring his situation.

Arsenal set Ramsdale deadline

Arteta and technical director Edu are now focusing their attention on signing a new keeper to provide competition to Bernd Leno.

Aaron Ramsdale remains the club’s top target in the position and according to Football.London a fresh bid is being prepared to acquire his services.

Arsenal hope to swiftly wrap up a deal for the Sheffield United stopper

It is expected that the offer won’t reach the £30m valuation Sheffield United have placed on the ‘keeper, but could be one that tests the Blades’ resolve.

The report adds that Arsenal want Aaron Ramsdale signed before the Championship club start their Carabao Cup run against Carlisle on August 10.

Should Ramsdale play in that fixture it would of course mean he would be cup-tied for his new club and seriously limit the amount of games he will be available to play in.

Aouar “can leave”

Lyon manager Peter Bosz has admitted Houssem Aouar very possibly could leave the club before the start of the season.

Aouar has been a long-time target for Arsenal and was heavily touted to arrive during last summer’s window.

However, the Gunners ultimately opted to sign Thomas Partey, with Aouar remaining at the French club.

A year on, Arteta remains in the market for an attacking midfielder and the 23-year-old continues to be a man in demand.

This time around, Lyon could sanction a cut-price deal in order to bring funds into the club amid difficulties surrounding the pandemic and the TV deal.

Bosz suggests that until the last minute of the window, there is a chance the Frenchman could depart.

He explained: “He can leave, this is modern football. Until the last moment, he can leave.”
