Mikel Arteta discusses the team spirit at Arsenal after Liverpool draw

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta remains desperate to bring in Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic this month.

It comes with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang expected to leave the club after he was stripped of the club captaincy and frozen out of the Arsenal first-team squad following a disciplinary breach in December.

The forward departed earlier this month to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Gabon, but it now appears he will no longer be taking part in the tournament after being sent home without playing a single minute.

Arteta has now deployed his secret weapon in order to push through a deal for Serbian striker Vlahovic, as his dream post-January line-up is revealed.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Arsenal headlines.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has suffered another setback

Aubameyang blow

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been sent home from the Africa Cup of Nations without playing a single minute of the tournament in a fresh blow to the Gunners forward.

It has been a challenging few weeks for the Gabon international, who has been training alone following the disciplinary breach which saw him stripped of the captain’s armband.

And in a further blow, he has now departed his international squad after the Gabonese medical team discovered “cardiac lesions” following a positive Covid test.

He will now return to Arsenal for further tests, the Gabonese FA has said.

Secret weapon in Vlahovic bid

Arsenal remain locked in talks with Seria A side Fiorentina as they try to land star forward Dusan Vlahovic this month.

The Gunners are hoping to wrap up a deal for the highly-rated striker before the transfer window closes as they believe their chances of securing his signature come the summer will be severely reduced.

It is thought other clubs will enter the market for his signature during the next window, and so Arteta is pulling out all of the stops in order to push the deal through.

He has now made an offer for the forward, who has 16 league goals for his club so far this season, which includes a big incentive for Fiorentina to accept it.

Dream line-up revealed

Mikel Arteta’s dream line-up come the end of the January transfer window has been revealed.

As well as hoping to bring in Serbian forward Dusan Vlahovic, Arteta is also hoping to make improvements in midfield as he looks to make further improvements in the second half of the season.

With a £50million offer for Vlahovic now on the table, more funds may be needed in order to bring in a new centre-midfielder, however.

The Gunners have been linked with Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, but another player with Premier League experience may be preferred.
