Arsenal receive late double injury update ahead of Leicester City fixture

Arsenal have received some good news ahead of Sunday’s game against Leicester City, with word that Rob Holding will be available.

Mikel Arteta’s side travel to the King Power on Sunday and will need to avoid defeat in order to get back into the top half of the table.

The Gunners will be looking to build on their Europa League over Benfica on Thursday night, having beaten the Portuguese side 3-2 to progress to the last 16.

They had to deal with that game without centre-back Holding, who is still recovering from a suspected concussion suffered against Manchester City last weekend.

But he will be in contention to play against Leicester, the club confirmed, after he cleared all concussion protocol.

Rob Holding will be available for Arsenal against Leicester

Holding had proved his worth to the Arsenal side this season, having started 20 out of 23 games in the Premier League.

He’s been vital in Arsenal’s defence, and will likely be involved against Leicester.

However, Arteta will be without backup goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson, who will be assessed before the game.

The new signing, who has only played once in the Premier League, has been kept as a rotation option for Bernd Leno.

Runarsson suffered a knee injury in training this week, and is now unlikely to feature in the squad against Leicester.

In his absence, Arteta will likely have to name Matt Ryan on the bench instead.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Arteta confirmed he is considering rotating his side slightly for the trip to Leicester.

He said after the win on Thursday night: “Today the players are still in Greece, we have to travel back on a four-hour flight but we won’t use that as an excuse.

“We have to deal with that, we know that when you play in European competition you have to be able to perform every three days and we will prepare to play Leicester with the same intensity like we always do.”
