Transfer update: Arsenal ‘plan’ player-plus-cash Maddison move

Arsenal have already made three signings in the current transfer window but Mikel Arteta is planning to add more new faces to his squad before the deadline.

The Gunners have already spent around £75million on signing Brighton defender Ben White, Anderlecht’s young midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares from Benfica this summer.

It is understood that Arteta would like to bring in four more players before the August 31 deadline but time is running out.

The Spaniard is targeting another goalkeeper, a right-back, a creative midfielder and a striker as he plots to end Arsenal ’s exile from the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta is eyeing more new faces to add to his Arsenal squad

The 39-year-old has overseen two disappointing league campaigns with Arsenal finishing eighth in successive years in the Premier League.

But without European football for the upcoming season, Arteta will be able to fully integrate his new signings as he looks to shake up the order at the Emirates Stadium.

But who could Arsenal sign? Mirror Football brings you the latest transfer rumours and news from north London…

With Arteta keen to sign a striker, the Arsenal boss has reportedly turned his attention to Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbia international enjoyed a prolific campaign in front of goal in the Serie A last season, scoring 21 goals for the Viola.

The 21-year-old has been likened to Robert Lewandowski for his close control and lethal finishing, with several European clubs taking notice of his displays.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Inter Milan had all been linked with the highly-rated striker this summer.

But according to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal and Atletico are heading the queue of clubs interested in capturing Vlahovic.

However, they could face competition from Tottenham if Harry Kane decides to leave for Manchester City this month.

The report also claims that Arsenal and the LaLiga champions could be preparing an offer to be submitted in the near future, with Fiorentina likely to demand around £50m for their prized asset.

This transfer saga has taken more twists than a certain popular ice cream brand, but Real Madrid could be finally willing to part ways with Martin Odegaard.

The 22-year-old spent the 2020-21 season on loan at the Emirates and scored twice in 16 appearances.

His impact was somewhat limited due to the time constraints of his five-month stint in London, but Arteta saw enough to state his desire publicly to re-sign Odegaard.

The Norwegian returned to the Santiago Bernabeu as new coach Carlo Ancelotti wanted to run the rule over his entire squad before making transfer decisions.

But it seems the Italian has been less than impressed with Odegaard’s contributions and the midfielder only featured for 30 minutes against AC Milan in their most recent friendly.

Spanish publication AS report that Ancelotti is keen to give Isco and Dani Ceballos an extended run in the team.

And that could be enough to push Odegaard towards the exit, with Arsenal apparently “pushing” to secure a second season-long loan deal.

Lucas Torreira is yet to return to Arsenal following his loan spell at Atletico Madrid and it is believed the midfielder will leave the club before the deadline passes.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid but failed to earn a permanent move after making only 19 appearances in La Liga.

Torreira was expected to regroup with Arsenal for pre-season after participating in the Copa America with Uruguay.

But quarantine protocols have complicated the situation, with Torreira reportedly waiting in Madrid to fly back to London after Uruguay was placed on the UK government’s red list.

However, there remains a chance he may never return to the club’s Colney training complex with a return to Italy on the cards.

As recently reported by The Telegraph, Torreira has held talks with Serie A outfit Lazio as he would prefer to head back to Italy, where he played with Sampdoria before joining Arsenal in the summer of 2018.

He could still move as part of a swap deal involving want-away forward Joaquin Correa, with Arsenal potentially offering £17m plus Torreira as part of the deal.
