Arteta welcomes Odegaard back to Arsenal after club complete permanent move

Arsenal are the biggest Premier League spenders in the transfer market so far, having already forked out £129million, and there could be more arrivals to come.

The Gunners secured the signing of Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid for £30m on Friday, while Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale is expected to join the club.

The pair will join the likes of Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares – who completed moves earlier in the summer.

But under-pressure boss Mikel Arteta doesn’t look like he is finished with the transfer market just yet, with a number of other names being linked with a move to the Emirates.

With that in mind, here Mirror Football brings you the latest Arsenal transfer news…

Battle for Aouar

The battle for Houssem Aouar is set to intensify as Arsenal face competition from Tottenham for the Lyon playmaker.

Arsenal have been linked with Frenchman throughout the summer but they are facing stiff competition from their north London rivals Spurs for his signature.

The Lyon star, rated at £37.8m as reported by football.london, could be set to leave this summer and the proposed deal could go right to the wire, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on the Don Robbie YouTube channel, he claims the two Premier League sides are ‘really interested’ in signing Aouar this summer, despite Arsenal’s capture of Odegaard.

It is also reported that Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici was keen on Aouar in his previous role at Juventus before they opted to sign Federico Chiesa from Fiorentina.

With less than two weeks to go before the August 31 deadline, it is thought Aouar’s future may not be decided until the end of the transfer window.

Gunners desperate to offload Willian

Arsenal are reportedly trying to offload Brazilian midfielder Willian before the transfer window door slams shut on August 31.

In the same transfer video, Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday that the Gunners were ‘working hard’ to find a solution for the Brazilian – who has been looking for a way out of the club since May.

The 33-year-old has endured an unsuccessful spell at the Emirates following his free transfer move from London rivals Chelsea last summer.

Willian may be difficult to shift, however, with two years remaining on his current deal worth a reported £100,00-a-week that he signed in September 2020.

Barcelona right-back set to stay put

Emerson Royal has insisted he is happy at Barcelona

Emerson Royal has said he is very happy at Barcelona amid reports linking the right-back with a move to the Emirates.

The Athletic suggested that the 22-year-old could be involved in a swap deal which would see Arsenal wantaway right-back Hector Bellerin return to Barcelona.

However, Emerson has distanced himself from the speculation in a recent interview with Spanish media outlet Sport.

“When I was asked about my future, I told the truth,” he said.

“I respected Betis and I worked to help the club, but I couldn’t lie [about my ambitions]. I’ve always wanted to play for Barca, it was my main goal.

“Other teams showed an interest when my contract was up, but I didn’t want to hear about them.

“I was sure that I wanted to be here, and I’m very happy that I’ve achieved my goal.”
