Arsenal Women boss Eidevall wants centurion Miedema to stay at club

rsenal Women boss Jonas Eidevall hopes they can convince Vivianne Miedema to stay at the club beyond this season after she scored her 100th goal for the Gunners last night.

Miedema netted a 12-minute hat-trick during Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Slavia Prague, which booked them a place in the group stages of the Women’s Champions League after a 7-0 aggregate win in their second round tie.

Miedema’s third goal was her 100th for Arsenal in just 111 games and Eidevall wants the Dutch striker to extend her stay beyond next summer, when her contract expires.

“I don’t think nobody is trying to hide that of course we would like Viv to stay on,” he said.

“But I understand from Viv’s perspective, and what kind of player she is, it’s important for her to see what the direction the club is going to and for her when the time is right to take a decision about her future.

“But I am of the opinion that when you see the squad we have today that, of course, there can be external players coming in making us a little bit better, but I think the most important thing will be trying to keep the foundation of this group of players and to keep on building with them.”

Arsenal have won all five of their games under new boss Eidevall and will be back in Women’s Super League action on Sunday when they travel to take on Reading.
