Arsenal reportedly sent scouts to watch Benfica forward Darwin Nunez in Champions League action against Liverpool, as Dani Ceballos has hit back at criticism of Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta will be keen to bring in new attacking options in the summer transfer window, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah looking increasingly likely to follow ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of the exit door when their contracts expire at the end of the season. And Nunez is reportedly a target for the Gunners having already been backed to succeed at the top level by his Uruguay international teammate Luis Suarez.
It comes as Dani Ceballos has hit back at Piers Morgan over the TV personality’s criticism of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. And we’ve compared Tottenham and Arsenal’s remaining fixtures in the Premier League as the top four battle heats up.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Arsenal headlines.
Fixture lists compared
Arsenal’s remaining Premier League fixtures have been compared with Tottenham Hotspur’s as the north London rivals battle for the final Champions League spot.
Spurs leapfrogged the Gunners on Sunday with their 5-1 demolition of Newcastle, before Arsenal fell to a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night. Mikel Arteta’s side are only behind on goal difference and still have one game in hand on Spurs – so their remaining fixtures will be vital to deciding which club finishes in the top four this season.
Mirror Football has taken a closer look at the games each side still have to play.
Ceballos hits back criticism
Former Arsenal midfielder has responded to Piers Morgan’s criticism of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Morgan has been particularly outspoken against the Gunners boss following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure from the club during the January transfer window. And Real Madrid midfielder Ceballos, who spent two seasons on loan at the Emirates, has hit back at the criticism by calling for “patience” in the Gunners boss, who he described as “very good”.
Arsenal’s scouting mission
Arsenal could be set to go head-to-head with Manchester United for Benfica and Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez after both clubs reportedly sent scouts to watch the striker in Champions League action against Liverpool.
The forward could be available for around £67million during the summer transfer window, with Arsenal said to be keen on securing his signature. Nunez has 21 goals in 23 league games this term and was on target once again against Liverpool on Tuesday, with United and Arsenal scouts reportedly in attendance.
And the forward has already been backed to reach the very top by Uruguay teammate Luis Suarez.
