Arteta gets his big north London derby decision spot on

Lacazette struck in the second-half, slotting home a penalty after Davinson Sanchez had brought him down following Nicolas Pepe’s perfectly-weighted through-ball.

It was a cool finish from Lacazette and one that will have given Arteta immense joy, naturally because it handed Arsenal a win over their biggest rivals, but also because it justified his selection.

Dropping Aubameyang for the north London derby, on the day of the game, is a big call and one Arteta can say he got right given the final result.

Before that, Arsenal fans would have been fearing it wasn’t going to be their day.

They struck the crossbar early on through Emile Smith Rowe – who was excellent out left all game – and then Erik Lamela put Spurs ahead with an outrageous ‘Rabona’ finish.

Arsenal had been on top before that and they continued to be but, when Cedric Soares hit the post, you could hear the groans from their fans despite Emirates Stadium being empty.

The Gunners eventually, however, levelled as Martin Odegaard knocked home Kieran Tierney’s cross just before half-time.
