Manchester City have been widely tipped to sign a striker following their failed pursuit of Harry Kane last summer, but one player could be about to leave the club
Pep Guardiola’s struggle to find a centre-forward has seen Manchester City linked with several top names from across European football.
The club famously failed to land England captain Harry Kane last summer as Tottenham Hotspur held firm and refused to let their star man leave the club.
It means City may have to look elsewhere, and they could have a big advantage when it comes to signing one of the world’s most feared marksmen.
They could secure the signing at just the right time, with the club said to have ‘agreed a deal in principle’ with Barcelona for another of their attacking players.
And City could be set to go head-to-head with bitter rivals Manchester United to secure the signing of a young winger.
Here are all the latest Man City transfer rumours.

United to rival for winger
Manchester United are set to rival City for the signature of Argentinian winger Julian Alvarez in January, it has been reported.
The 21-year-old has managed a very impressive 17 goals and seven assists in 19 league appearances for River Plate this season and reports have suggested he now wants a big move to Europe.
Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Sevilla, Aston Villa and Real Betis are also said to have watched the player, who has a £21.1m release clause in his contract.
According to Calciomercato [via Fichajes ], Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the player and is keen to beat United to his signature.
City gain striker advantage
Man City have a huge advantage in the race to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to reports.
Portuguese outlet Record reports that Darwin’s representative Edgardo Lasalvia has visited Madrid and Milan in order to drum up interest in the player, but that Manchester City’s ‘old love’ for the forward gives them a big advantage.
Signing Nunez won’t be easy, however, with the player’s contract containing a £128m release clause with Benfica determined to make him their biggest ever sale – surpassing Joao Felix’s £100m move to Atletico Madrid 2019.
Barcelona ‘deal agreed in principle’
Ferran Torres could well be on his way to Barcelona, with frersh reports claiming the club have ‘agreed a deal in principle’ with the Manchester City forward.
Sport claims that Torres has agreed to join Barcelona next summer and that it is just down to the two clubs to negotiate a fee.
New Barca manager Xavi is said to be keen to add more width to his side and had reportedly been interested in Raheem Sterling before targeting Torres instead.
