Irish were due to travel to face Neal Hatley’s side – just one place and solitary point above them in the early 2020/21 standings – at The Rec for a festive fixture on December 26.
However, Premiership Rugby released a statement on Wednesday to confirm that the match had been called off after the latest round of testing had produced a “small number” of positive results in the Exiles’ camp.
Irish also later confirmed further players reporting symptoms and the decision to cancel the contest has been made with the safety of players, staff, management, officials and supporters in mind.
It is the second successive postponement for Bath, whose recent Heineken Champions Cup fixture against Top 14 outfit La Rochelle was also cancelled due to Covid-19, along with Exeter vs Toulouse, Glasgow vs Lyon and Scarlets vs Toulon.
The Premiership encounter between Leicester and Newcastle on Boxing Day has also already been cancelled after positive coronavirus results were recorded by Tigers.
“We were really looking forward to going to The Rec on Boxing Day, so we’re incredibly disappointed that we’re unable to fulfil the fixture,” said Irish director of rugby Declan Kidney.
“I’m really disappointed for the players, as they’ve acted professionally, following all the relevant guidelines, but this is the situation we find ourselves in at the moment, as the country continues to try and navigate its way through the pandemic.”
Bath vs London Irish will not be rearranged, but instead a league panel will now convene to decide to whom the points are allocated.
