Berbatov suggests neither Liverpool nor Man City may win Premier League title

Dimitar Berbatov predicts we may see another “against-all-odds story” in the Premier League this season – similar to Leicester’s 5000/1 triumph in the 2015/16 campaign.

The Foxes currently top the table with six wins from their opening eight games, while Tottenham and Southampton complete the top four alongside defending champions Liverpool.

Heading into the season, few could look past the Reds or Manchester City to win the league, as between them they have won the last three titles.

But Liverpool have already dropped points on three occasions, including in the shocking 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, while City have won just three of their opening seven games and find themselves 10th.

Berbatov predicts we may see an end to City and Liverpool’s recent dominance

And Berbatov believes the unpredictable season which is unfolding may produce another surprising outcome.

“This season’s title race is going to be unpredictable,” the former Manchester United striker told Betfair . “Look at where City are, there’s a good chance that something unexpected will happen this season.

Leicester are top and there could be another against-all-odds story brewing here. I’m sure a lot of people would like to see a story like that again.

“The big thing, though, is that with so many games, teams will need to know how to spread their resources throughout the season and get their priorities straight.

“The one that’s keep their team freshest throughout the season will be the winner.

“Hopefully, Leicester will keep up with the tempo and so will Southampton who are doing really well and going under the radar with the same record as Spurs and Liverpool.

“There’s a long way to go and we’ve already seen plenty of ups and downs. Aston Villa were first then suffered two defeats before bouncing back with a brilliant win at Arsenal.

Everton were flying in first and then lost three in a row. If you want to stay top, you need consistency.”
