Brentford will be ‘bang on it’ against Tottenham, vows Frank

Brentford are seeking to reach their first-ever major final and Frank insists the in-form Championship side will not sit back against their Premier League opponents.

The west London club have already knocked out Southampton, West Brom, Fulham and Newcastle to get to this stage and are unbeaten in 16 matches.

Tottenham are desperate to end their 13-year trophy drought and Mourinho has described tonight as his biggest match since taking over at Spurs.

Mourinho has used the League Cup as a gateway to bigger trophies at Chelsea and Manchester United and is expected to name a strong team, but Frank has warned the Portuguese that his side will have to be “bang on it” in the one-off tie to reach Wembley.

Frank, who has led Brentford to their first major cup semi-final, said: “It is a massive game for us. We will do our best to try and attack and take our chances against one of the top teams in the world, who have top players and a top manager.

“Tottenham are by far the favourites. [Harry] Kane and [Heung-min] Son have only scored 32 goals with 22 assists, so if we can manage to keep them quiet in terms of goals or assists we are pretty far down the line in terms of making a remarkable result. It will be unbelievably difficult but we will do our best to keep them quiet.

“We are coming up against a world-class team but if we do not believe in ourselves and do not give it a shot, there is no point in us turning up.”

Frank has hailed Mourinho as “one of the greatest managers of all-time” and is relishing the chance to pit his wits against him.

“When you are still a relatively young manager and you have studied football for many years, of course it is a privilege to meet him and play against his team,” said the Dane. “But when you blow the whistle, he is just another bloke standing in the other dugout and we are competing.”
