Bristol City keen on Aston Villa outcast Lansbury as he prepares to move

Bristol City are making a move for Aston Villa midfielder Henri Lansbury.

Former Arsenal trainee Lansbury is out of contract this summer after joining from Nottingham Forest in January 2017 for £2.7million.

He is available on loan after being left out of Villa’s Premier League squad.

Attacking midfielder Lansbury, 30, has been limited to just three Carabao Cup appearances this season.

He is now ready to quit Villa and move either permanently or on loan with a view to landing a future contract.

Championship Bristol City are keen on Lansbury, who scored 32 goals in 145 League games for Forest.

Lansbury is keen to move for regular action

Last season he made 10 Premier League appearances for Villa but eight were off the bench.

Villa also have Championship interest in striker Keinan Davis and keeper Tom Heaton.

Davis, 22, only signed a new contract in September until 2024 and is part of boss Dean Smith’s plans.

Smith seems reluctant to loan out Davis while £20m Brazilian striker Wesley is not yet back from a serious knee injury.

Championship clubs are also on the trail of Villa’s promising young striker Keinan Davis but Dean Smith says he is needed as back up to Ollie Watkins with Wesley still not yet fit

Heaton,34, is No.2 to Emiliano Martinez in goal.

Smith said earlier this week: “Keinan Davis is our first centre-forward substitute for Ollie Watkins and he and Tom are valued squad members.

“They both want pitch time obviously and will have to be patient.”
