Plant’s strength and conditioning coach has confirmed that he is recovering well after his brutal KO defeat to Alvarez and would be willing to face Charlo soon after the pair exchanged at the weigh-in
Caleb Plant is recovering well after his brutal stoppage defeat to Canelo Alvarez and would be willing to face Jermall Charlo next year.
The American suffered his first career loss at the hands of the pound-for-pound king who rallied to a damaging stoppage in the penultimate round.
And he was admitted to hospital for observation after being dropped to the canvas twice before succumbing to defeat.
But Plant’s conditioning coach Larry Wade has confirmed Plant has now made a full recovery from the brutal battle.
“I’m super proud of Caleb, he did a great job,” Wade told FightHype. “You’re dealing with a guy in Canelo, who is considered one of the best ever in the sport, especially in this decade.
“It’s only going to make him better, he’s 100% healthy, he had no issues after the fight. I actually talked to him the very next day, and he was functioning well. He had nothing lagging from the night before.
“He [Plant] went to the hospital just to get some tests to make sure everything was okay, I waited and so did the whole team, and he came out with no problems. He walked out as well with no issues. He passed all the tests.
“What we did was some precautionary things. I think the body is going to recover a lot faster than the emotional. You’ve got to take a month and a half away from it and enjoy life. I promise you, he’ll be better than before.”
Plant was the far less experienced fighter going into the contest but frustrated the Mexican for the early parts of their encounter.
However Alvarez’s clinical finishing prowess shone through in the latter stages as he walked down Plant in a bid to end the contest.
After closing the show, the new undisputed champion offered his hand in respect having feuded with his opponent for large parts of the build-up.
But now Plant must regroup after being stopped for the first time in his career.

And he was approached by WBC middleweight champion Charlo earlier in fight week with the pair exchanging at the weigh-in regarding a potential showdown.
Wade has now confirmed the exchange and revealed the former IBF champion would be willing to take a test against Charlo in the future.
“Caleb said, ‘I got to handle this business, but you can get that,'” Wade continued about Plant’s discussion with Jermall Charlo. “That means, he didn’t care.
“Caleb’s not the type of guy that’s going to run away from a fight. He’s definitely going to take on the challenge if it makes sense, but ultimately, he’s going to make the right decision and his team is going to make the right decision.
“I can tell you as a man, he wasn’t worried about the fight [with Jermall] in the sense that he was willing to do it. We got to make the fight.
“In Charlo’s defence, he definitely understood that and he was like, ‘Yeah, I’m just letting you know, I want that fight.’ He wasn’t rude or disrespectful about it in any way. He just said, ‘I want that fight,’ and he let it go.”
