Klopp previews Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Man City

Jamie Carragher reckons Brendan Rodgers would be at the ‘top of the list’ to replace Jurgen Klopp if he left Liverpool.

The German has been in the Anfield hotseat since 2015, but since their Premier League title win rumours have circulated that he could call it day.

Steven Gerrard has naturally been tipped as the favourite to be named his successor after helping Rangers win the Scottish Premiership last term.

But Carragher reckons that former Reds boss Rodgers could make a shock return to Merseyside as he continues to impress at Leicester City.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m a huge fan of Brendan Rodgers and think he’s a brilliant manager, I really do.

Who should replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool? Comment below

“I’ve worked with him for 12 months at Liverpool and I think this job came too early for him. if Jurgen Klopp was to leave Liverpool tomorrow Brendan Rodgers would be top of the list.

“That’s not going to happen because he’s been here (Liverpool) before – but done a brilliant job at Leicester.

“It is a bump in the road and I almost feel at Leicester because they’ve fell away at the end it’s almost looked at negatively – ‘Oh the season they threw away the top four’.

“They’re a really good side, a great club in how they recruit but it’s still overachieving what they’ve been doing in the mix of that top four under Brendan Rodgers year in, year out.

“He won’t panic, they’ll come back, but I think it’ll be tough to get into the top four for any club now with the strength of what we see at those top four clubs now.

“It will be tough but they will move up the table.”

Micah Richards reflected on Klopp’s tenure as he previewed Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

And he reckons nobody could have predicted that he would turn the Reds into Champions League and Premier League winners.

He said: “It’s absolutely staggering. When Klopp came in nobody knew what direction Liverpool were going to go.

“I spoke to Jamie a lot about where did he think they’ll go, not even he could imagine how well they would’ve done.

“They have gone and won the Champions League, gone and won the Premier League – bringing it back after how many years.

“Giving them (the fans) something to shout about, it’s always been a tough place to come and for City to match that is phenomenal. Both sides, incredible.”
