Despite only being 20, Erling Haaland has already developed a reputation for somewhat awkward post-match press conferences.
Often not his fault, the Borussia Dortmund forward has faced criticism for short answers when facing the media after some of his star showings.
But following Dortmund’s win over Club Brugge in the Champions League, Haaland faced no blame for an interview that left Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards in fits of laughter.
Haaland netted a brace in the win over the Belgians, taking his total to 14 in the Champions League and 26 in 28 games for Dortmund since his move from RB Salzburg in January.
And after the game, in an interview shown on CBS Sports, the striker was asked a series of bizarre quesions.
First of all, the reporter told Haaland that he didn’t have to mess up his hair, because he scored his two goals with his feet.
He replied: “Yes it was a good night, three important points.
“We knew that Brugge want to play and we wanted to press them high and I felt we did that. We wanted to go out and show that we’re a better team and I also felt we did that. As I said a good and important win.
The reporter followed that up by asking: “Are you going to sleep lonely tonight?”
“Erm…yeah,” a seemingly confused Haaland replied.
“You’re not taking a girlfriend home? You didn’t score a hat-trick,” Haaland was asked again.
“I didn’t score no.” Haaland confirmed.
The cameras then panned back to the studio to see Carragher and Richards laughing, with the former putting his head towards the table.
“Oh Jesus Christ,” the Liverpool legend shouted.
Richards added: “I didn’t know where that was going to be honest.”
“I thought we were all getting sacked!” Carragher went on to exclaim.
CBS host Kate Abdo claimed it was the “weirdest” interview following a Champions League game – but it appears there was some history to the question.
Earlier this year, the Dortmund striker explained to Norwegian outlet Dagbladet: “I sleep with the five balls for each hat-trick I have scored. I lie in bed and I feel good with them.
“I look at them every day. They are my girlfriends.”
