Thomas Tuchel’s first full transfer window as Chelsea manager is yet to fully get underway, with the Blues still to make a signing.

While they won the Champions League last season, Tuchel is keen to upgrade several areas of his squad in order to mount a Premier League title challenge.

A new striker is at the top of the shopping list, with moves for several new defenders and midfielders also being eyed.

But with players coming in, Chelsea must also move on the outcasts in their squad as well as settling on destinations for their vast loan army.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Chelsea transfer news…

Chelsea have launched a shock bid to hijack Manchester United ’s attempt to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

The Red Devils have long been seen as the frontrunners to bring the World Cup winner to the Premier League.

They are understood to be very close to sealing a £50million deal with Madrid which will see Varane move to Old Trafford.

But according to Marca, Chelsea have now emerged as late contenders to hijack the move and instead bring Varane to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are said to be hopeful they can scupper United’s hopes of signing Varane, with his price tag almost certain to rise if they solidify their interest.

Madrid at first hoped to bring in a £60m fee for Varane, but with United the only contender had to slash that, though Chelsea’s interest could see that rise up to the original figure.

Transfer battle for midfielder

Conor Gallagher enjoyed a successful loan spell at West Brom and will join a Premier League club this summer

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is reportedly the subject of a transfer battle between Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old has spent the past two seasons out on loan at Charlton Athletic, Swansea City and West Brom.

Though the Baggies were relegated, Gallagher became a regular and was one of the few highlights of an incredibly difficult campaign at the Hawthorns.

Who should Chelsea sign in this summer’s transfer window? Comment below.

Sam Allardyce had told him to stay with West Brom in the Championship, but Gallagher is instead set to be handed another loan spell in the Premier League.

That is according to The Sun, who report that the Blues will not stand in the way of a temporary departure for their midfielder.

They state that Palace and Newcastle are the two clubs “scrapping” to sign him ahead of the coming season.

Chelsea are reportedly planning a deal with Bayern Munich that would see Kingsley Coman and Callum Hudson-Odoi swap clubs.

Hudson-Odoi has struggled to find a place for himself in Thomas Tuchel’s team, being selected both behind the striker and on the right wing.

Coman meanwhile has impressed for Bayern, scoring eight goals and notched 15 assists as they won the Bundesliga last season.

While he still has two years to run on his contract, talks have broken down on an extension, with Bayern unwilling to match his wage demands.

But Chelsea could now offer him an escape route, with L’Equipe reporting the Blues will offer Hudson-Odoi in part-exchange for Coman.

Bayern have slapped a £77m asking price on the winger, with Chelsea hoping they can reduce that by offering Hudson-Odoi, a player Munich previously attempted to sign in 2019.
