Chelsea looking forward to more success under ‘integral’ Tuchel

Tuchel was given an 18-month deal to succeed Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge in January, but he will now remain in west London until the summer of 2024 after being handed an additional two years.

The extension is reward for a hugely impressive first five months in English football for the former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss, who led Chelsea to their second Champions League triumph last weekend courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in Porto.

Tuchel took charge of Chelsea’s European campaign from the last 16 onwards, while he also guided the Blues to the FA Cup Final against Leicester at Wembley – where they were beaten by a Youri Tielemans wonder strike – and back into the top four of the Premier League.

Granovskaia said the 47-year-old had quickly become an important figure at Chelsea and believes he will guide the club to further success in future.

“When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe. He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family,” she said.

“Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea.

“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.”
