Chelsea player ratings: Mount stars, Havertz, Werner boost confidence

here was no upset in west London on Sunday as Chelsea thumped Morecambe 4-0 to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup. 

So nearly embarrassed at his near post, but recovered well to stop Phillips’ cross-shot from creeping over the line. 

Spent most of his time in Morecambe’s half and allowed Ziyech to do damage by cutting in onto his left foot – as he did for Werner’s goal just before half time.

In  control – as you would expect. Was never going to be tested too much against a team that wanted to frustrate Chelsea.

Perhaps could have done with a rest after so much football this season – but this was a comfortable afternoon for him.

Morecambe’s best moments came down his side, with Phillips nearly opening the scoring. Spent the majority of his time supporting Hudson-Odoi in an attacking sense.

Another performance that showcased his talents. Effortless control at the base of midfield.

Lampard just doesn’t want to leave him out – and it’s easy to see why. He is increasingly the driving force behind this Chelsea team. Quality finish opened the scoring and eased nerves.

Desperately needs a confidence boost – and this could be it. Scored one, made another and wanted the ball constantly. 

Showed exactly why Chelsea miss him so much when he’s out of the team. The most direct player in Lampard’s squad, constantly asking questions of defenders. Made two goals. 

At last he managed to get himself back on the scoresheet. It was a good management call to name him against League Two opposition to end his drought.

He has wonderful feet – and with respect to Morecambe, this was a perfect chance to showcase that. A goal and an assist further strengthens his case for more game-time.

Gave Morecambe yet another thing to worry about.
