Chelsea stars to bank mega bonus if they seal Champions League and FA Cup double

Chelsea players will share £11milion worth of bonuses if they complete the Champions League and FA Cup double this season.

The Blues booked their place in the Champions League final on Wednesday evening courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid, raising hopes of an extraordinary end to the campaign.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have already earned a sum of £5m for reaching the final in Istanbul and there is a further £5m up for grabs if they are able to defeat Manchester City on May 29.

In addition to this, a further £1m collective bonus will be shared should the Blues overcome Leicester City in the FA Cup final on May 15, the Daily Mail have revealed.

All bonuses will be shared equally amongst members of their matchday squad, meaning each player will earn around £500,000 if they win the Champions League.

This approach differs to the policy adopted by City, who negotiate individual bonuses with each player when they sign their contracts at the club.

Pep Guardiola’s side, like Chelsea, could cap off a memorable season in style in Istanbul.

The City boss is aiming to guide the Sky Blues to a first European Cup in the club’s history but will be all too aware of the threats posed by their opponents.

Tuchel masterminded a win over Guardiola in the FA Cup semi-final to prevent City from being able to achieve an unprecedented quadruple.

It goes without saying what an impact the former Borussia Dortmund coach has had since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, having transformed what was shaping into a disappointing campaign.

Key to Chelsea’s success has been their new-found defensive resilience, demonstrated by 18 clean sheets in 24 matches following the appointment of Tuchel.
