Chelsea sweating on Pulisic fitness after latest injury blow

The winger was forced off around the hour mark following a clash with Honduras captain Maynor Figueroa during Wednesday night’s World Cup qualifier in San Pedro Sula.

Pulisic will now return to Chelsea where his ankle will be assessed ahead of this weekend’s visit of Aston Villa and Tuesday’s Champions League opener against Zenit St Petersburg.

Following the USA’s 4-1 win over Honduras, manager Gregg Berhalter said: “Christian has a slight ankle injury.

“We’re going to get more info on it when he goes back to London, the severity of it.”

Pulisic’s time in west London has been hampered by injury since his move from Borussia Dortmund two years ago.

A key target for Pulisic this season had been to stay fit in order to cement his place in manager Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI.

Eight players across five Premier League clubs are impacted after not releasing their Brazilian internationals over the break.

With Brazil on the UK government’s travel red list, players would have had to quarantine in a hotel upon their return. It is mandatory for clubs to release players to their national associations unless there is prior agreement not to do so, meaning the Brazilian FA are well within their rights to request Fifa place restrictions on the clubs.
