Tuchel ‘proud’ of Chelsea players despite FA Cup defeat

Government sources reportedly fear Chelsea’s takeover could be “timed out by certain sporting deadlines” and that Roman Abramovich “is ultimately willing to let the club go under”.

The billionaire put the club up for sale following his native country Russia’s invasion of Ukraine before he was sanctioned by the UK government over his alleged links to Vladimir Putin. American businessman Todd Boehly has fronted a consortium which have agreed to purchase the Stamford Bridge outfit from Abramovich, although it is now claimed that there are fears the deal could fall apart.

It comes as footage has emerged of Thomas Tuchel pushing Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson ahead of the FA Cup final. And Robert Lewandowski has reportedly decided on where his future lies amid interest in the Bayern Munich star from Chelsea.

Takeover fears

Chelsea’s imminent sale to Todd Boehly’s consortium has reportedly been thrown into doubt over Roman Abramovich’s unwillingness to accept certain terms of the sale imposed by the UK government.

The Russian billionaire has previously promised the proceeds of the transaction will be directed into a charitable fund for victims of the war in Ukraine. The government is insisting that the ÂŁ2.6 billion fee agreed upon at the start of the month be held in a trust account until it can be ensured that it will be handed to a foundation.

However, Abramovich is said to want the £1.6 billion he has loaned the club since purchasing it in 2003 to go to Jersey-based business Camberley International Investments. There are doubts over the ownership of the company, though, and the Charity Commission say no application had been made to register a foundation – and now Government sources are said to have raised fears over the sale falling apart.

Tuchel’s antics spotted

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was seen on camera jokingly pushing Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson before the FA Cup final.

The incident occurred while the managers met with the match officials prior to Saturday’s game. Captains were allowed to attend a meeting with officials and managers of both clubs, though it appears Tuchel was unaware he could bring Cesar Azpilicueta along as the Spaniard was absent.

Tuchel playfully pulled Henderson out of the conversation when it was pointed out to him that he might have also brought his captain before being left with just the officials and Klopp.

Lewandowski stance revealed

Robert Lewandowski appears set to snub interest from Chelsea this summer as he angles for a move to Barcelona.

The Polish striker has been linked with leaving German outfit Bayern Munich his summer with his contract at the Allianz Arena is due to expire next summer. Reports had suggested Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel held an interest in signing the deadly goalscorer, although Lewandowski himself is reported to prefer a move to Barcelona.

The striker is also reported to have reservations about coming to the Premier League, but if Barca’s financial problems prevent them from making a move for him Lewandowski may yet arrive at Stamford Bridge.
